Germany is in the middle of Europe, with nine neighboring countries and coasts on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Berlin, the capital and largest city, is in the northeast. Hamburg is the great port of the north, and Munich is the largest city of the south, near the Alps. Cologne, Düsseldorf, Essen and Dortmund are close together in the west, along and near the Rhine River. Frankfurt, in the center, is the country’s financial capital.
