Math Morning Work and Weekly Review
One two-sided spiral review sheet a week, for 36 weeks, for grades 1 to 5. Each sheet practices the week's new topic and brings back seven earlier ones. Use it as morning work, a daily math review, a warm-up or bell work. The first 4 weeks of every grade are a free PDF with answer keys. No sign-up.
Who it is for
Classroom morning work
Students start on it as they come in. Two boxes a day, Monday to Thursday, about ten minutes a day, then go over the answers together on Friday.
Homeschool daily warm-up
A short start to the math lesson that keeps earlier topics in play while you teach the new one. Use the year plan to pick the week that matches your program.
Keeping skills fresh at home
The front one night and the back the next, or the whole sheet in one sitting of 20 to 30 minutes. A box your child cannot do tells you what to go back over.
The eight boxes on every sheet
Four on the front and four on the back, in the same places every week. One box practices that week's new topic. The other seven spiral back, and only use skills from earlier weeks.
- 1
Facts Quick problems to keep recall fast.
- 2
Number sense Place value, comparing, rounding and mental math.
- 3
Word problem One story problem with room to show the work.
- 4
This week's focus The new topic for the week. The line under the title names it.
- 5
Mixed skills A different skill each week: time, money, measurement, graphs, shapes or fractions, whichever earlier weeks have taught.
- 6
Patterns Number patterns, rules and tables.
- 7
Puzzle A riddle or a problem that takes some thinking.
- 8
Find the mistake Two children give two answers. The student says who is right and what the other one did wrong.
In 1st grade the boxes are simpler: big type, pictures, and "Count and write" in place of "Number sense".
About the Math Morning Work
Each grade is 36 sheets, one for every week of the school year. In each grade the weeks follow the order most U.S. math programs teach the grade (the sequence used by enVision and Go Math), so the sheet a class is on is close to the lesson it is being taught. The year plan in each pack names the Common Core standard that week's focus box practices.
The sheets are drawn to print cleanly on a black and white printer, with room to show the work. The answer keys are together at the back of the file, two pages for each week, in the same layout as the sheet. Every answer was solved a second time and checked against the key.
Looking for practice on one topic instead? The free math worksheets are sorted by topic and by grade: 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is math morning work?

What is spiral review?

What order do the weeks follow?
In each grade the weeks follow the order most U.S. math programs teach the grade (the sequence used by enVision and Go Math). Each grade's page has the full year plan, with the Common Core standard for every week, so you can match a week to what you are teaching.
