About these preposition worksheets

A preposition links a noun to the rest of the sentence, usually to tell where or when: under the bed, after lunch. The lesson sheet lists the common ones and shows how a preposition starts a phrase that ends with a noun.

Students circle prepositions, mark the whole phrase, decide whether a phrase tells where or when, and finish sentences from a word bank.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade are these preposition worksheets for?
Third and fourth grade.
What is a prepositional phrase?
A preposition together with the words that follow it, ending in a noun: "across the field", "during the storm".
Can a word be a preposition in one sentence and not in another?
Yes. In "The cat ran up the tree", up is a preposition because a noun follows it. In "The cat looked up", it is an adverb.
