About these plural nouns worksheets

A plural noun names more than one. Most nouns just add s, so the worksheets spend their time on the three places children slip: nouns that need es, nouns that end in y, and the few whose whole word changes.

The first two worksheets use pictures and suit first grade. The y rule and the changing plurals are second grade skills and have no pictures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade are these plural nouns worksheets for?
First and second grade. Adding s and es is usually a first grade skill. Changing y to i and plurals like mice and feet are usually taught in second grade.
When do you add es to make a plural?
When the noun ends in s, x, ch or sh: buses, boxes, lunches, dishes. Saying the word aloud helps, because the plural gains an extra syllable.
Why is it toys but puppies?
If a vowel comes before the y, just add s: toys, days. If a consonant comes before the y, change the y to i and add es: puppies, cities.
