About these complete sentences worksheets

A complete sentence tells a whole idea. It names who or what the sentence is about and tells what that someone or something does or is. A group of words with one part missing is a fragment.

These worksheets use plain words for the two parts. The names subject and predicate come later, in the subject and predicate lesson for grades 3 and 4.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade are these complete sentences worksheets for?
First and second grade. They come before any work on subjects and predicates.
What is a sentence fragment?
A group of words that is missing a part. "The big dog" does not tell what the dog did, and "ran to the bus" does not tell who ran.
Why do the fragments end with a period?
So that the period is not a clue. The child has to read the words and decide whether they tell a whole idea.
