Sight Word River is a free sight word game for kindergarten. A teacher's voice says a word, and your child taps the stepping stone that shows it. Each right answer moves the fox one stone across the river, and ten stones reach a friend who needs rescuing. There are 17 friends to rescue, one at each stop on the map.
How it teaches
Each stop practises six sight words. Every word in the set comes up, then a few words from earlier stops for review.
The wrong stones look alike on purpose (the, then, they), so a child has to look at the letters, not guess from length.
A wrong tap sinks the stone and the word is said again. After two misses the right stone glows and its letters light up one by one, and that word comes back later in the round.
The speaker button says the word again at any time, and the game repeats it once on its own if nothing is tapped for a few seconds.
The 17 stops
The stops follow the same kindergarten sets as our sight word worksheets and sight word readers, in the same order, so a child can read the book, do the worksheet and play the stop for the same six words.
