About the beginning, middle, end organizer

A beginning, middle, end organizer is usually the first story-structure tool children meet. After reading or listening to a story, they draw and write what happened first, what happened next, and how it ended.

Each row pairs a drawing box with wide-ruled lines, so kindergartners can draw and label while second graders write full sentences. It prints on US Letter paper, free, with no watermark.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is most common in kindergarten through 2nd grade. Younger children draw each part and tell it aloud; older children write a sentence or two beside each drawing.
Once students can retell in three parts, a story map adds setting, characters, and the problem, and a plot diagram adds rising action and climax for upper elementary and middle school.
