Grammar in 1st grade

In first grade, grammar is mostly about noticing. Children learn that some words name things, some tell what happens and some describe. They learn that a sentence tells a whole idea, starts with a capital letter and ends with a period, a question mark or an exclamation point. These sets use pictures and big type, and each starts with a chart to read together.

Topics overlap between grades on purpose. A set marked for grades 2 to 3 appears on both pages, so you can use it for first teaching in one year and review in the next.
