2Pip got mud on his legs and on his back. Then Pip had a wish. “I will get on top of the log!” he said.

3Pip got up on the log, but he fell back in the mud! His pal Gus the dog ran to help.

4Pip got up. He did not stop. At last, Pip sat on top of the log! Gus did a big wag. “That was fun!” said Pip.

About This Decodable Reader

“Pip in the Mud” is a free printable decodable reader designed for kindergarten students practicing mixed cvc phonics patterns. This mini-book uses phonetically controlled vocabulary so beginning readers can successfully sound out nearly every word in the story, building confidence and reinforcing the specific phonics skills they're learning.

The free PDF is a full-color illustrated mini-book: a cover, four picture pages with one or two lines of story text each, and a back page listing the mixed cvc words, high-frequency words, and discussion questions.
