Luke found an old wooden hut deep in the woods. The hut was in bad shape. The top had a big hole, and the door fell off. He wanted to fix it up. The hut needed a lot of work, but Luke was ready for the job. He hoped his plan would be a big improvement. He wanted a safe place to sit and read his books. First, Luke had to plan how to fix the wall. He took a measurement with his tape to see how much wood he needed. He made a note with his pencil. He needed more wood to fix a big gap in the side. He went to his yard to find some spare slabs of wood. He had to carry the heavy wood all the way back to the hut. His friend Kate came by to watch him work. "That is a big job," Kate said. "You are very brave to do this by yourself." Luke nodded, but he was tired. He felt a bit of weakness in his arms from all the hard work. The wood was very heavy to lift by himself. Suddenly, he felt a bit of sadness. He thought he might not finish the job before night fell. "I will help you," Kate said with a bright smile. "We can do it if we team up." "That is real kindness," Luke told her. They made a quick agreement to work together until the job was done. Kate helped him lift the thick slabs of wood into place. Luke hammered them in tight. The two friends worked fast. Every movement they made was careful and quick. They hammered in all the parts and rubbed the rough spots smooth. Kate made sure to sweep the floor and clean up the dirt for neatness. The hut was looking much better with every passing minute. Soon, the sun began to set, and darkness fell over the woods. They gave the door a final coat of fresh paint. They used a lamp to see in the dark. The paint made the hut look bright and brand new. Luke and Kate stood back to look at their achievement. The old hut was now a safe, fine cabin. It was a perfect spot to rest and play. They felt a rush of excitement and pure happiness as they went inside. The hard work had paid off.
