The sun was down. Viv sat up in her nest.
"I want to play!" said Viv.
But Gus and Pat were in the shed, and they did not get up.
Viv hit the bell by the shed door. Then she tossed her ball at the shed. Bonk!
"Hush!" huffed Gus and Pat.
Viv was sad. Then she spotted Ron up on the hill. Ron was up, just like her!
Viv ran up the hill. "Can you play?" said Viv.
"Yes!" said Ron. "I like to play when the sun is down."
Viv tossed the ball to Ron. Ron did not miss once. Viv missed once, and the ball fell in the grass and moss. They had so much fun!
At last the sun was up. Gus and Pat ran out of the shed.
"Play with us, Viv!" said Gus.
But Viv was back in her nest. "Hush!" said Viv.
When a short word ends in f, l, s or z right after one short vowel, double the last letter.
