Bet Fixes the Hutch, page 1
Bet had a little pet, Rex. Rex had no home. "I will make you a hutch," said Bet. Bet got a stack of thin sticks. She set them up in the grass to make a hutch. Rex hopped in.

Then he slipped out! The gaps in the sticks were too big. Rex hopped off down the path. Bet ran and got him. Bet set Rex in the hutch again. Again he slipped out and hopped off.

"This is bad," said Bet. "I must think." Then Bet had a plan. She cut a big bit of mesh. She wrapped the mesh over the hutch. She tapped in tacks with a thick block.

Now the gaps were small. Rex hopped in. He sniffed the mesh. He could not slip out. "That did it!" said Bet. Rex sat in his snug hutch and napped. Bet grinned.
