It was the day of the big fall lunch. The pals set up a long bench on the hill.
Fran the frog had a bag of nuts. Chad had yams and a jug of milk to drink. They sat down on the bench.
Then Tess got to the top of the hill with a big pink dish of plums.
"Can I sit with you?" said Tess.
She sat on the end of the bench. Her end sank. Bang! The other end tipped up, and the nuts fell off.
"There is no spot for me," said Tess. She was sad.
Tess sat still to think. Then she had a plan. Tess was big and strong. She got a long plank and set it on two stumps.
"Now we all fit!" said Tess.
The pals sat together to sing a song of thanks.
"Thank you, Tess!" said Fran and Chad.
