Scott was a good reporter. He liked to tell true stories about the town. Today, he had a very important job. He needed to write a big report about the busy seaport. The seaport was where giant ships came and went. It was a perfect place to find a story.
Scott walked out to his carport. He grabbed his portable bag and a thick portfolio of notes. He had to be careful with his things. "I must transport these to the sea," he said to himself. He got into his car and drove down the long road to the water. The drive was quick, but his head was full of thoughts about his report.
When he arrived, Scott looked at the ships. The seaport was full of action. Some ships were there to export big crates of goods to a far land. Other ships were there to import things the town needed, like food and parts. People worked hard to transport the heavy crates all day long. It was loud, but it was fun to watch.
Scott took out his small, portable desk to begin his report. He set his portfolio on top of it. He took out his pen to write. But the little desk began to bend! The thin legs did not give enough support. Suddenly, the desk crashed down. His portfolio fell right into a muddy puddle!
"Oh no!" said Scott, looking at the mess. "My report! I need a strong support to write on." He picked up his muddy portfolio. He grabbed a cloth from his bag to wipe off the mud. The notes were safe, but he had no place to work. He looked around the seaport for something to help him.
Soon, Scott noticed a flat wooden crate on the dock. It was not in use. It looked strong and thick. "That will work," he said with a grin. He went over and put his portfolio on the crate. The heavy wood was a perfect support. He could finally finish his notes about the ships.
The reporter smiled as he read his work. He had learned all about how ships transport, import, and export lots of things. It was a very important story for the town to read. He packed up his bag to go home. Next week, he planned to visit the airport to write about the planes!
