The four stages of a frog's life
A frog changes form as it grows, through a process called metamorphosis. Here is what happens at each labeled part of the diagram:
| Stage | What it does |
|---|---|
| Eggs | A jelly-like clump of eggs (frogspawn) is laid in the water. |
| Tadpole | The eggs hatch into tadpoles that swim and breathe with gills. |
| Froglet | The tadpole grows legs and lungs but still has a tail. |
| Adult frog | The tail disappears and the adult frog can live on land, ready to lay new eggs. |
